16 Weeks
The last 10k of the season, for me, that is, will be coming up soon. The week after, I will begin training for my first half marathon. It will be 21k, 13.1 miles. I will be able to put that little decal on my car and I will do it. I'll brand myself, even if it's the only one I'll ever do. I don't think it will be, though.
My first 5k was a mere 4.5 months ago. It seems like forever. I've only done 2 of them. This next race will be my second official 10k. The last 10k I did was actually a quarter marathon. The significant difference is just over 3 blocks. Let me tell you, it makes a difference!
So, back to the half, I signed up today. THEN, I decided to look up the time limit. Three hours. I have to get my speed up and be able to run this thing in three hours. If only my legs were a foot longer. I am going to have to really bring my 'A' game and get ready for this.
I have decided to enlist the services of a personal trainer. I really need to stay on track. I'll be perfectly honest here. I'm really nervous, if not frightened. Every time I do a race, I silently freak out in my mind about not being able to finish fast enough.
Here is where the tools I have access to will come into play. There are a couple of running meetups that I can join to practice running. Some of them are even for beginners. The thing is, I feel like I am SO slow. I do about a 16 minute mile. I don't know what splits are negative or otherwise. I'm such a novice, but I KNOW that I can do this.
