5.17 Miles

Okay, so, my 10k is coming up in 8 weeks and I haven't really been running outside, like, at all!  So, Friday, I get a message from my coach that I really need to start running outside.  I agree.

I worked third shift Friday, got off work Saturday morning and tried to talk myself out of going to Body Pump.  The thing is, I told my new gym friend that I met two days ago that I would be there, so, I cannot go back on my word.  I went home, ate breakfast and sluggishly forced myself to the gym.  I worked it pretty hard.  I hung out with my DS and DH for a while then off to bed I went.

I woke up at 1730 and started plotting my outside run.  I had to either do it Saturday, which couldn't be a rest day now, because of Body Pump, or Sunday, which was supposed to be my rest day all along.  I finally got started around 1900, late, I know.  Now, before you read on, let me just let you in on something right now.  I wog.  I jog and walk.  I don't run like conventional runners, but I get airtime when I jog and for me that counts.  Thus, I say I run/ran/have run, you get the picture.

I ran along the lakefront, past the closed vendor tents from the air show that had been active earlier in the day.  I ran down to Veterans Park and up the hill to the Veterans Memorial.  I ran downtown past many apartment and condo buildings.  I ran down a bike path you can't even see from the street.  I saw people and dogs and wildflowers.  I ran past a hospital.  I ran past beautiful homes.  I ran down a fairly steep hill.  Then, I checked my phone app and it said 5.17 miles.  I couldn't believe it.  5.17 miles I traveled in 1:23:28.  It gauged me at a 16:09 mile.   I was thrilled!  I am now believing that I can do this 10k thing.  Like REALLY believing it.

I immediately called my coach.  I couldn't wait for her to see a message on Facebook.  We were both so excited.  She said, "You DO realize just how close to a 10k you are, right?"  I was over the moon!  It can only keep getting better from here!!!
